Welcome to Project Pastor!

Welcome to Project Pastor!

Pastors spend a lot of time building. We build sermons, teams, systems, people, and even the church. But somewhere in the middle of building ministry, it's easy to forget that God is still building us!

That's why Project Pastor exists.

This is a place for the pastor behind the platform. A place for biblical encouragement, honest conversations about ministry, practical leadership insights, and tools you can actually use.

Some things we talk about will be spiritual. Other things will be strategic. Most will be both.

My goal isn't to pretend to have ministry figured out. I'm in the trenches, too. I simply want to share what I'm learning, what I'm seeing work, and the resources that are helping pastors lead healthier and last longer.

Here's the reality: Every pastor is a project, and God isn't finished building you yet. Let's build healthy. Lead healthy. And finish well.

You can expect things like

Field Notes — biblical leadership and lessons from ministry.

Fine-Tune Friday — practical adjustments that can make your ministry healthier and more effective.

For the Pastor — encouragement for the person carrying the weight behind the scenes.

The Toolbox — field guides, templates, systems, and resources you can put to work in your church.

Many of us were newly assigned there. Some of us were brand-new leaders just promoted as noncommissioned officers (NCOs). We knew our jobs, and we knew how to lead. But we hadn’t really worked together yet. I remember sitting with a group of young NCOs when Chief Warrant Officer 4 (CW4) Robert Rupe introduced us to four...

Project Pastor September 11, 2026 5 Things I Wish I Knew When I Started Pastoring There are some things you can learn in a classroom. And then there are some things ministry can only teach you by living through them. When I first stepped into pastoral ministry, I had vision. I had passion. I loved Jesus, loved people, and genuinely wanted to build a healthy church that would make a difference. But there was also a lot I didn’t know. I didn’t fully understand the weight of leadership. I didn’t...

the sunday rally Your Volunteers Need More Than a Schedule How a 15-minute pre-service rally can build culture, create alignment, and remind your team why they serve. Sunday morning can get chaotic fast. Volunteers are arriving. Kids rooms are opening. Coffee is brewing. Somebody called out. A microphone isn’t working. Someone needs an answer right now. Before you know it, service has started and your teams have gone straight from arriving to serving without ever getting aligned. One small...
